Can fasting 12 hours work for weight loss?
Whether you’re brand new to an intermittent fasting plan, or you’ve been following intermittent fasting for weight loss for some time, you may wonder if a 12 hour fast does anything to speed up weight loss.
12 hour fasting for weight loss can make a big difference for many women when it comes to beginning an intermittent fasting schedule.
While your 12 hour fasting results may not be as extreme as with longer fasts like OMAD, your true intermittent fasting results will really come down to your overall calorie deficit during your feeding window.
That’s why some people see the same progress with a 12 hour vs 16 hour fasting window. If you eat the same amount of food while fasting for 12 hours as you do during a longer fast, then studies show your results will be the same!
So is 12 hour fasting good for weight loss? Yes, beyond the additional calorie restriction with this type of plan, other 12 hour fasting benefits include improved digestion and improved hunger signaling.
Is a 12 hour fast enough for extreme weight loss? Probably not – but keep in mind, extreme weight loss measures lead to extreme weight regain. But if you want consistent and sustainable weight loss results, add a 12 hour fasting diet plan to your routine along with a moderate calorie deficit.
Back when I wondered: 12 hour fast does it work? I wasn’t sure I’d get any results. These days I use 12-14 hour fasts and my weight loss over 40 has been steady!
